The Cardiac Care Network of Ontario (CCN) has built an international reputation promoting effective management and monitoring of patients requiring advanced cardiac services. CCN serves an advisory role to the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. We are dedicated to improving quality, efficiency, access, and equity in the delivery of adult cardiac services.
Reporting to the Director, Informatics and Business Intelligence, the Database Developer will be responsible for providing database administration, development and support services to CCN. This person will be responsible for all environmental aspects of the CCN data store including integrity, security, availability, performance, recoverability, development, maintenance and testing. Other responsibilities include the investigation, procurement, recommendation and management and maintenance of the database technologies as needed to support CCN and its comprehensive information resources. The Database Developer will work closely with other members of the team to ensure consistency and integrity of data; to assist with processes surrounding collection and reporting of complex, related information. The Database Developer contributes to the mission, vision and values of CCN by providing database and information management expertise that builds upon CCN’s solid reputation as an objective, evidence-based organization. This is a full-time position available immediately.
Position Summary:
As a member of the Informatics and Business Intelligence Team, the Database Developer position serves a key role in the organization by ensuring the database technology and related databases are available to support management decision-making and external reporting. This includes the following:
- Identifying user business requirements.
- Design and document database architecture and dictionary. Data Modeling.
- Perform management of databases, including creation, restore, configuration, account set-up, access and permissions, upgrade, maintenance, backup and recovery, archiving, testing and troubleshooting.
- Develop and maintain ETL processes to integrate and consolidate data
- Defining data standards and models for BI architectures.
- Design data warehousing and business intelligence platform.
- Facilitating integration of data and systems to deliver business intelligence solutions, including analyzing existing processes, process mapping, source data analysis and source qualification, data profiling, and source/target mapping.
- Designing and developing reports and data cubes using Business Objects, Crystal Reports, Reporting Services and other desktop and web reporting solutions.
- Transforming data into information to support decision making using technology solutions such as OLAP, dashboards, scorecards and analytical applications.
- Managing system infrastructure to ensure continuous operation of business intelligence solutions.
- Investigating and implementing new technologies / solutions to meet reporting requirements.
- Writing functional and technical specifications and user documentation.
Key Qualifications:
- University degree or college diploma in computer science / information systems
- 3 + years of experience with system analysis, database management, developing business intelligence solutions.
- Good knowledge in storage technology to effectively configure database systems
- Thorough in-depth understanding of database design and development methodology
- Strong knowledge of SQL Server (2000/2005)
- Strong knowledge of data warehouse concepts and processes, ETL technologies and methodologies
- Experience with SQL Server Integration Services, Analysis Services and Reporting Services
- Experience in building business BI portals, dashboards, scorecards and drill down reports
- Experience in SQL, OLAP cubes and frameworks, Crystal Reports, Business Objects or other business intelligence tools
- Project management experience and skilled in the conceptual mapping of projects and outcomes.
- Strong interpersonal, analytical and communication skills
- Highly skilled in stakeholder engagement and customer services with a proven ability to interact with people from all organizational levels and build consensus through negotiation and diplomacy.
- Self-motivated, highly accountable, with demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.
- Effective and creative problem solving skills
- Ability to effectively manage workload and competing priorities to complete projects and/or provide operational support in a timely manner.
- Previous experience working with health care data is preferred.
