Software Architect (Toronto)

Quantec has internally developed a vertically integrated software platform (QTPi) for processing and interpreting its proprietary geophysical acquisition systems; Titan and Spartan. The GUI is written in C++ using MFC with Matlab and Fortran number-crunching modules. In production for over eight (8) years, it strongly adheres to the OOP paradigm; highly structured and abstract. Development is to be ramped-up to include: transparent interface to a project database (likely using ADO), 3D visualization, expanding geophysical processing tools, etc.

We are searching for a Software Architect to lead, implement and co-develop the Windows GUI and database portions of the QTPi platform. The ideal candidate would:
  • Quickly understand and contribute to the existing software development.
  • Quickly learn the application of the software, i.e. understand the user workflow and graphics and also grasp the basics of the underlying geophysics and mathematics. (Having an understanding of geoscience, mathematics or physics would be an advantage.)
  • Design and implement new functionality including graphics and database components of the platform.
  • Review the current architecture and recommend appropriate development paths and/or changes in overall architecture after assessing benefits and risks.
Our intent is for this person to evolve within six months to manage and direct the software team for QTPi development as we expand the group from a small loose ensemble of isolated programmers to a true collaborative, team development group while maintaining the well established and robust backbone already developed.
